GemRB RPG package (0.8.8) for AmigaOS 4/WOS

The GemRB RPG package is a port of an engine that makes it possible to play RPG games like Baldur's Gate 1, Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale 1 and Planescape: Torment on AmigaOS 4 or under AmigaOS 3.x with WarpOS capable OS3.x systems with PCI PPC cards (or with MorphOS systems via WarpOS emulation) (download selectable above). In addition, the package contains installation scripts for convenient and easy installation of the games from CD or from an image. GemRB emulates the Infinity engine and is based on GemRB 0.8.8.

Many say that ‘Baldur's Gate 2’ is the best computer role-playing game of all time (yes, better than the brilliant Ambermoon). Baldur's Gate and the other titles are set in TSR's ‘Forgotten Realms’ universe, in which, for example, the 2023 D&D feature film (‘D&D: Honour Among Thieves’) also took place. ‘Forgotten Realms’ is the game universe that made Dungeons&Dragons famous. As a player, you experience a series of exciting adventures centred around the famous city of Baldur's Gate and the ‘Throne of Bhaal’.

Features

• This package provides a port of GemRB 0.8.8 to AmigaOS 4 and AmigaOS 3.x for WarpOS (G3 + G4 PCI PPC solutions).
• Installers are included for all four supported games, so that it is easy to install the games directly from the CD/DVD of the PC version without having to ‘pre-install’ on a PC (you can insert the CDs directly into the Amiga during the installation process and the games will be installed).
• Alternatively, you can install from the data of the Gog version (but then only with pre-installation on a PC, while a direct installation is possible via the game CDs)
• Manual editing of config files, as with versions of GemRB on many platforms, is NOT necessary, the installer already takes care of all this. No shell commands necessary, the game can be installed and then played as normal by clicking on it
• Localisations in German, English, Spanish, Italian and Polish are supported
• Several important bug fixes that are not available in the old 0.7.2 version and also not in the WOS/MOS 0.8.x version (for example, the ‘Portal Key Bug’ has been fixed and Baldur's Gate 2 is now playable).
• GemRB is released under the GPL licence (PC original project: https://github.com/gemrb/gemrb)
• No need to search for older .so libraries, the installer takes care of everything

System requirements for AmigaOS 4

• Minimum MicroAmigaOne or comparable hardware, recommended is Sam or AmigaOne x1000/x5000 hardware (for Baldur's Gate 2 a Sam or x1000/x5000 is minimum requirement, the other 3 games have slightly lower system requirements), recommended is a filesystem with SFS.
• ‘Classic’ version of the supported games (Enhanced versions are not supported), either on CD/DVD (recommended, for easier installation) or via Gog (buyers of the Enhanced versions on Gog can download the Classic version for free). The Gog version is available for 15 EUR per game, the CD/DVD versions are often available for less than 5 EUR on eBay and similar platforms.

• Minimum 800 MHz G3 or 450 MHz G4. A file system with SFS is recommended.
• ‘Classic’ version of the supported games (Enhanced versions are not supported), either on CD/DVD (recommended for easier installation) or via Gog (buyers of the Enhanced versions on Gog can download the Classic version for free). Performance for AmigaOS 4

This new version is highly optimised and also contains executables that are specially optimised for certain Amiga models. The following frame rates are achieved:

• AmigaOne x5000 2 Ghz - 30 fps in 1024x768
• AmigaOne x1000 1.8 Ghz - 25 fps in 800x600
• AmigaOne A1222 1.2 Ghz - 18 fps in 640x480
• Sam 440 666 Mhz - 15 fps in 640x480
• MicroAmigaOne 800 Mhz - 10 fps in 640x480

Special versions of the executable exist for x5000, x1000, Sam 440, Sam 460 and A1222, plus an exe that runs on all systems.

Performance under AmigaOS 3.x with WarpOS

This new version is highly optimised and also contains executables that are specially optimised for certain Amiga models. The following frame rates are achieved:

• Ragnarök 800 MHz G3 - 25 fps
• Apocalypse 450 MHz G4 - 25 fps

Special versions of the executable exist for G3 and G4.
